The Zodi Hot Vent tent heater is a high performance tent heater for extreme weather conditions and 4 seasons camping. This unit pumps out 20 000 BTU’s which is more than enough for the biggest tent on the coldest night.
To avoid the common problem of all tent heaters (namely a build-up of poisonous gasses inside the tent), Zodi attacked the problem by having a heat exchanger outside the tent.
Air is heated up inside the exchanger, pumped into the tent and then recycled by an air duct back into the exchanger. This continuous cycle is very effective and heats up a tent rapidly. A further plus is because the heater is outside the tent there is no water vapor or moisture trapped inside the tent.
The only down side of this system is the 12V power source (a deep cycle car battery works best) that is needed to run the fan. The fan can be a little noisy if you sleep with it right next to your head but make no more noise than a PC fan. So if you can duct it into a different corner you will hardly hear it.
The heat exchanger accommodates 2 x16oz propane tanks and depending on your setting you can expect anywhere from 3 to 8 hours of run time on 1 tank.
Although the tent heater is not quite as small as some of the other units, it does fit into a carry bag that makes it into a compact system.
The Zodi Hot Vent Tent Heater Final Thoughts
This tent heater is a very effective unit, although slightly bulkier than some other models. The major factor for this tent heater is safety, with the heat exchanger outside there will be no build-up of carbon monoxide or dioxide inside the tent and no open flame risk. The external power source can be a hassle, but if you are going to brave some cold weather this heater is hard to beat.
For even bigger tents Zodi has made the bigger brother, the Zodi Outback Gear X-40 Hot Vent Tent Heater that delivers 40 000BTU’s
